June 3, 2024Metanoia Rays: Reflecting on an Inspiring 2024 🌟
As 2024 draws to a close, we at Metanoia Rays are filled with gratitude for an extraordinary year of growth, advocacy, and connection. From significant achievements to meaningful events, our team, participants, and supporters have made this year unforgettable. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights that shaped our journey in 2024.
Celebrating Milestones in Advocacy and Inclusion
This year, we were honoured to be finalists in the prestigious NDS National Disability Service Awards in the Excellence in Service Quality category. Additionally, we celebrated nominations for our Muirhead House and Nishu in the Excellence in Support category at the NT Disability and Inclusion Awards. These recognitions reflect the collective effort of our team to drive inclusion and improve the lives of those we serve.
A standout moment this year was celebrating Raelene’s recognition at the NT Chamber of Commerce Awards for Excellence in Customer Service. Her unwavering dedication to providing personalised and compassionate support has left an indelible mark on our participants and their families. This accolade is a testament to her professionalism, empathy, and the high standards she upholds in her role. Congratulations, Raelene—your efforts continue to inspire us all!
We also supported Richard Crookes, a passionate Stroke advocate who has worked tirelessly to improve accessibility across the Northern Territory. His campaigns for disability ramps at fishing spots and increased wheelchair parking at major venues in Darwin have gained significant momentum, highlighting his unwavering commitment to inclusion.
Cultural Celebrations: Honouring Diversity
This year, we embraced and celebrated the vibrant cultural diversity within our team and community. Harmony Day provided an opportunity to recognise and honor the inclusivity that defines us, while the Teej Festival saw us joining our Nepalese colleagues in the colourful celebrations. These moments highlighted the strength that comes from unity and the beauty of sharing traditions from around the world.
Celebrating Aboriginal Art and Culture
A highlight of this year was unveiling the stunning Aboriginal artwork created by local Indigenous artist Katelyn Clapé, now proudly displayed at Metanoia Rays head office. This vibrant piece captures the spirit of connection, community, and the land we are privileged to work on. Katelyn’s artwork serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of honoring and celebrating Aboriginal culture and heritage in everything we do.
Supporting Causes That Matter
We championed several causes throughout 2024, from increasing awareness about the challenges faced by stroke survivors to celebrating International Day of People with Disabilities. There was blowing bubbles on International Bipolar Awareness Day to symbolise hope and resilience, and encouraging meaningful conversations on R U OK? Day, we’ve highlighted the importance of mental health and connection. We also stood in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community by celebrating Wear It Purple Day, reinforcing our commitment to diversity and support for young people. These initiatives reflect our dedication to advocating for causes that align with our values and positively impact the community. Each initiative reinforced our commitment to advocacy and empowerment.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on a year filled with milestones and meaningful connections, we remain steadfast in our mission to Empower people of All Abilities to live the life they choose. Together, we’ll continue to break barriers, empower individuals, and champion the values of dignity, respect, and opportunity.
Thank you to our incredible team, participants, and supporters for being an integral part of our journey. Here’s to an even brighter year ahead!
